Electronic redaction in Nextpoint is designed as the ultimate failsafe. Once a piece of information, other parties or opposing counsel cannot recover it. (This has not always been true of other technologies, where redaction failures are common.)
In order for redacting to work, it has to be truly unreadable and unrecoverable once in place. Unfortunately, the failsafe requirements makes proper auditing a bit tricky when it is necessary to see what was under there in the first place.
Audition Redactions
Fortunately, Nextpoint released a feature that does just that — making auditing available, but only for users who have the authority to redact.
Documents that have redactions made in Nextpoint will have an additional icon in their “Viewer Tools” section.
A view of the document pre-redaction will be temporarily displayed. The version of the document available for (normal) export / production is not effected by using this audit mode. Navigating away from the document will not leave the setting on. Likewise, any other users viewing the document at the same time would see the redacted copy.
Checks and balances are in place to prevent production of unredacted images remain in place, ensuring that those copies are provided only when explicitly requested.
We aim to please
A number of our customers had suggested this change, and we believe this feature will in handy and makes the process of auditing redactions simple and straightforward.
